Media Relations
The Cyclone Research Group has great deal of resources to offer to members of local, national, and international media outlets. Our work in the past with local radio and television networks has proven beneficial to residents of their local community by advising them of the actual conditions that exist throughout the region during a cyclone landfall. Data and video are gathered from each vehicle as well as selected locations where forecast conditions would prohibit a human presence. This data and video is then broadcast live to central servers for viewing for the entire duration of the mission. Live video, which is subject to bit rate limitations, has quality similar to that of a videophone. Broadcast quality video and in some cases high definition, is available immediately following a landfall when conditions allow the safe transportation or uplink of video to the appropriate affiliate. Our equipment is designed, tested, and proven in conditions equivalent to that of a Category 5 cyclone.
